After months of troubleshooting, the new-to-me Heidelberg 10×15 Windmill is in the studio and running. Eventually, I will get a post together to detail the winding path that got it here, but for now, let’s just watch it do its thing for a spell.

CHICAGO LETTERPRESS MAINTENANCE WORKSHOP
Instructor: Paul Moxon
This is an essential workshop for serious letterpress printer/artists with the top expert in the field. Paul Moxon is a studio letterpress printer, itinerant teacher and author of Vandercook Presses: Maintenance, History and Resources. He is also website editor-in-chief for the American Printing History Association, a recent Newberry Fellow, and a former Rare Book School Fellow.
This two-day workshop is a lecture/demo developed for artist/printers to guide them in the proper care and adjustment of Vandercook presses. This information is applicable to other brands such as Asbern, Challenge, and Reprex. Participants need not be mechanically inclined, but should have some familiarity with proof presses, and may handle tools and press parts.

The holiday season is upon us, and the Flying Rabbit Press Etsy store has been stocked with loads of new cards, and a few favorites from years past. Check out the goods!
Oh my goodness, have I ever been busy since the move into the new studio space. The first three weeks had me printing nonstop, and that was all for one job! Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not complaining, busy is good. It has made finishing the move and settling in a drawn out process, though. I’m getting there. Gradually. It’s such a treat to go to the studio every day, and not have mean that I’m going down the basement.
My new studio mate, Kristen Rost of FROSTco., is a welcome addition, too. We worked on some holiday product together this past season, and I’m looking forward to future collaborations with her.
Here is a sampling of some of what’s been coming off the press recently:
After almost nine years of running Flying Rabbit Press out of my basement studio I’m excited to be moving it into a commercial space. The new studio has lovely natural light, more room, a higher ceiling, and will be open for visits from you. More details about that last bit will be divulged once I’m settled in.
To go with the new digs the press has a new logo, and will have a new website, too. For now, this site has gotten a quick facelift (you may have noticed).
As you might expect, many weeks have been spent preparing for the move and readying the new space. Friday was a big day; the presses made the move with the help of a skillful team of professionals who are used to transporting equipment that is even heavier than my 1100 lb baby. Here are some pictures of the process:
When Bendyworks asked me to print their holiday cards at the end of the year I had no idea it would involve a video camera. But it did. And now, despite my serious aversion to being photographed/filmed, I’m sharing it with you.
The long quiet spell here is a symptom of the flurry of activity that’s been happening in the studio. In addition to printing for a slew of wonderful folks, I’ve been working on a complete overhaul of the press website! The new site is cleaner and brighter, and more accurately represents the aesthetics of the press. As if that weren’t enough, the press logo has been redesign, too! I can hardly wait to make the shift, and am looking forward to hearing what you think of it.
